Just got that nifty security suite virus that masks itself as an antivirus and won’t let you open any dam thing while it warns you that everything is infected. It makes me want to find the creators and kick them square in the nads. I hooked up my old computer and found some instructions inculding a program to remove it I didn’t dare to download. Spent the last two hours trying to get rid of it and haven’t been successful yet.
So, fuck you you malicious cocksucking virus scaming motherfuckers. I read some comments on the instruction pages and saw that several people have actually paid you $50 bucks to get rid of your own dam virus, and then I suppose they have to cancel that card and try to deny the charge.
I really hope someone tracks you down and throws your fucking ass in jail. Someone has to be collecting this money. While they are leading you to your cell maybe they can bump you into a few metal door frames and accidentally kick you in the nuts as they try to help you up, over and over.
Bastards.

When my boyfriend was explaining to me how he removed this from my laptop just recently, he said something along the lines of:
they had to leave you access to the internet in some fashion so you could get online to buy their shit to fix their problem (I have firefox and explorer). I realized explorer was still working so I went to … and changed (file name?) to contain… so the shit on your computer thought it was explorer and I was able to do…
Now, if you can translate that, you might make some progress. If not, and you’re still having issues when he gets home, I can ask him to tell me in English what he did.
I got this on my computer, which I almost never have these types of problems with-- and my dad got it on his computer, which he always has these problems. I’ve seen oodles of Dopers complaining about it, too. I’ve also been reading a lot of complaints about malware on this board. I’m starting to think their might just be a connection.
PS: I used MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware to get rid of it on mine. Seemed to do the job. Or maybe I’m still all virusy. Who knows.
Oh, mate. Commiserations. I had that a while back. It was an absolute motherfucker, and if I ever find the little cuntbag responsible I’m gonna carve out his fucking eyes. Eventually I gave up and called in a pro. Hope you get it sorted asap.

I still recommend MalwareBytes for removing the virus. It worked on my wife’s computer. I also recommend getting a USB drive and putting an anti-virus program on it. There’s also a bootable CD/USB version of some of the major antivirus programs for when you get really hosed. Check here:
He used Malwarebytes to get rid of it. BUT, it wouldn’t run because of all the virus warnings. He renamed executable file for malwarebytes to iexplore and was able to run it from that.
He also said that my mozilla was not working but the explorer was. He said the one I had blocked everything that wasn’t called iexplore or iexplorer.
He said to make sure you have only 1 thing called iexplore or iexplorer at a time so you don’t run into issues with possibly deleting or overwriting(?) something.
In my case, the program had messed with my internet settings so he had to go back and fix all those too.
Once he did the iexplore thing, it only took as long to fix as it took to run malwarebytes.
I deal with this kind of crap on a regular basis. Malwarebytes rocks. I use it and it works ~90% of the time. The rest of the time I just format it and go.
At this point my rage (which used to burn with the intensity of a billion suns) has mellowed a bit. I’ve come to the conclusion that infections are going to happen (though interestingly, I never get any) and I am going to have to clean them up.
I’d like to see the guys who write this stuff strung up by their balls in front of everyone who had their PC infected. Of course all those people would have sticks. With large nails in them. Covered in acid.
FWIW, AVG doesn’t seem to work on this virus – I got the virus from SDMB earlier this week, and the first thing I did was to run the AVG rescue cd – it didn’t find any viruses.
One malicious flash ad or javascript, that’s all it takes. The most common virus vector among my peers (IT geeks all) right now is “zero-day flash vulnerability exploits from advertisements on normally trustable sites”.
Operating an outdated browser, outdated Flash player, outdated PDF Reader, or outdated Java will account for 90% of the infections.

Really. I check my email. I check the news. I check up with my family on facebook. I read SDMB. I read TFLN. I read hyperboleandahalf. I play WoW. I play Diablo. I work on my medical transcription class. In about 3 weeks, I’ll be using it for college. All my shit is up to date.
My boyfriend, who uses his for pretty much the same stuff except that he doesn’t read SDMB or take any classes and he usually has internet porn open in the background, has never had an infection on his computer.
