Art History Buffs! I'm trying to find a painting of Cleopatra, artist unknown. HELP

About a year or so ago there was a special about Cleopatra on either Discovery or PBS. In it, they showed a painting of Cleopatra that I fell in love with. Unfortunately, they never said who the artist was.

If you were looking at the painting, Cleopatra is sitting in a chair in an almost profile view, facing the right of the image. The painting is done in shades of red and yellow ochre, blacks, white, etc. Cleopatra has a sheer white top on over bare breasts.

I’ve tried doing searches online, to no avail. Any help would be welcome. Thank you.

No idea, but try http://images.google.com/

They returned several thousand, most of them irrelevant, so I didn’t look any further.

Altavista only found 379. (I thought they had a “looks like” feature, but I don’t see it there. our colour info would have helped.)

I sense a process of elimination. Hows about this for starters ? - not in profile but perhaps on the right track ?

Thanks you guys, but I already checked googles images and it is not by Waterhouse.

I’ll keep trying.

Hey London_Calling, That is similar, but the one I remember is almost sloppier, the image is dark and not “picture perfect”.

BTW, I don’t have to see it online, if anyone has any ideas for an artist, I can check them out.

Did anyone else see the Cleopatra special on TV?

Was it this series on the Discovery Channel, by any chance?

Bibliophage, I don’t think that is the same show, although the Discovery store has another one called,
Cleopatra: the First Woman of Power, that might be the one. I guess I will have to buy it to see if the painting is on it.
