I once saw a picture on the cover of a book (I think it was an anthology of western fiction… published before 1998). The picture was of a praire landscape, with an big section of blue sky. I don’t know why if the picture has stuck in my mind so, I did not look at the book when I had it to see who the artist was, but I did not.
Recently, I saw a work by Maynard Dixon, and I said ‘that has to be the painter of what I remember’. However, looking through several books of his work, the union of which I think would include all his works, did not produce a picture that caused an ‘Eureka!’
Of the works that I find in a quick search on-line, the closest one to what I remember is ‘Navajolands’, 1925. What other artists painted works similar to this?
