The man is off his fucking rocker, or as Ontario’s Premiere has stated, the cheese has slipped off the cracker. (That wasn’t directed to Trump, but still a memorable quote.)
So, I’m still getting used to this new place. And, yeah, this is a bit of a rant, so if it belongs in The Pit so be it.
Trump has taken the Republican tactic of vote supression and given it the wannabe hollywood mob boss extortion treatment. And so far, Republicans are cool with that, because fuck democracy anyway. All I can tell you is let’s see how November shakes out. Until then, take solace in the fact that you live on the side of our border that you do.
This country is basically falling apart under Trump. The post office is being crippled one of many steps for election fraud by Trump, there are protests, some of which are violent, for basic freedoms and reformation and Big Orange suggests that the police (state) should dominate the protestors. Trump has attempted to depopulate states who will usually vote against him, thus lowering their vote count in the electoral college.
When Covid19 hit, we have no pandemic response team due to Trump disbanding it. He makes not wearing masks a political thing, till too many people die from it, then he says it’s patriotic to wear a mask, welcome to the club, it’s patriotic to do what the entire world was doing all along? Way to make America last again.
We do have this pie in the sky Space Force, which just is to glorify Trump’s name as the founder of that branch of the military. We are having to pay for the wall that keeps us locked in. Tariffs are imposed to raise the price to us. Many store shelves are bear of many products, travel is restricted between states and many countries have closed us off from them (including you guys and gals up north). Yes some of the above is due to Trump’s bubbling and outright harm he did because of his lack of response to the Corona Virus.
Any investigation of him is met with his back door, behind the scenes dealings, and him outright firing any person who dares to question him, he is controlling the media and will only talk to those who are his puppets, The White House has added barrier protection to protect Trump that no other president has needed.
We as a nation have kidnapped children from around the world, held them in cages, abused them, withheld even the basics of hygiene and in many cases only gave them a mylar (reflective plastic bag like) blanket to keep warm and to sleep, gotten rid of the documentation to ever get them back to their parents, and in some cases even lost their country of origin - as national policy.
We have become the shithole country Trump has mentioned.
The solace one can take from living on this side of the border is kind of limited. It’s like watching your next door neighbours starting a meth lab in their basement. I mean, you’re glad not to be living in their house, sure, but there’s still a meth lab next door. And half the people living there continue to insist that cooking meth is the most awesome thing ever, like they have some sort of weird Stockholm syndrome.
The thing is, Trump has explicitly stated that his goal is to cut funding for the post office and screw them up because he feels that this decision will make it more likely that many votes cannot be counted, and this will therefore help him win the election.
Yes, he pretends the “reason” is “argle bargle voter fraud”. With no evidence… or logic.
It’s no secret at all that his moves to fuck up the post office are part of his effort at re-election by suppressing votes.
Any Republican that continues to support him now must admit that they are full on supporting a dictator who is trying to subvert democracy. Plain and simple. It’s not subtle anymore. It’s right out there. “Stop votes so I will win”. That’s what they are supporting.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but aren’t you referring to his tactic of attempting to exclude certain residents of those states from population counts? That is not depopulating; it is undercounting.

No, “depopulating” works, too. The reason that Jared Kushner’s national testing plan (which would have helped get the virus under control) was scuttled back in the spring was because the virus was (at the time) primarily affecting blue states.
This administration has never even pretended to protect all Americans, but is instead a malevolent force that is actively trying to hurt those perceived to be the “enemy,” even whole states.
Of course, the malevolence of Trump and his administration are tempered only by their stupefying idiocy and incompetence, so is it any wonder that the tactic backfired and resulted in the uncontrolled spread of the virus throughout the country so that it is now affecting the red states, too?
