As expected my Netflix DVD queue is all on “…wait”

I joined Netflix to watch old movies. Started with silent queuing up to about 1950 or so. I have watched a few less than 2000 in the last eight years and have 200 in my queue. All in the queue are now “short wait”, “long wait” or “very long wait” (I am ignoring the 500 in the “save” queue.

Sporadically some old movies show up newly available for instant watch. I haven’t figured out how to discover when these appear. there are some blog that list Netflix new titles but I cannot find anyplace that list newly acquired old titles. Do you know of any way to find Netflix newly acquired old titles?

If you go to instantwatcher.com and click on anything in the red bar at the top of the screen or one of the genres listed below you can flip the “Order:” to “Instant release Date.”

I’m ultimately disappointed by the current depth of Netflix’s DVD catalog given their resources.

I had a long battle with Blockbuster way back when, about them claiming titles were out of print when they could be purchased from the owner of the rights or Amazon directly (not through a 3rd party), so I switched to Netflix and initially I was happy.

But now I’m not, and I don’t particularly like the tease of being able to “Add” something for which they don’t have a copy, and I’m not talking about wait status.

And I’ve even seen them pull some titles that I rented previously; there could be a bunch of reasons for that, but overall, their catalog is just not as good or complete as I think it should be.

Thanks, some good there.

Netflix has essentially become useless for those of us who have worked through the back catalog of discs. We spent the last six months getting only garbage from the bottom of our list - “someday” movies or ones only one of us wanted to watch. All new movies sat for weeks and weeks on the “long wait” list. We finally gave up and went streaming only.

Netflix at one point boasted that they would buy additional discs of new and hot titles until waits were minimal. They clearly stopped doing so a couple of years ago, to the point where you might not see a high-demand movie for three to four months AFTER their 30-day embargo.

Netflix streaming plus Vudu, folks. That is all.
