Hey, I’m especially looking for the opinions of fans of artistic bands such as Asia, Genesis, or Yes. Asia had two latter CDs entitled “Aqua” and “Aura”. Are these CDs any good? Their third album (“Astra”) was a bit weak compared to their first two albums, but I still liked it. I really like Asia’s sound, but the music budget is always tight!Should I buy Aqua and Aura to complete my Asia collection, or are these albums too lame? Thanks! - Jinx
I can’t recommend Spock’s Beard highly enough!
“Progressive” rock music with great pop sensibilities – powerful songs containing outstanding musicianship and great vocal harmonies. Their influences include Genesis/Peter Gabriel, Yes, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, and the Beatles.
They’ve actually changed my musical life!
Cool! …I’ll check it out! Thanks, Jinx!
I’m not a huge Asia fan, but I do have Aqua. This was the first Asia release with the new lead singer (something Payne?) who replaced John Wetton. Not sure if the drummer, Carl Palmer, was on this release. Steve Howe made a cameo appearance.
I liked the single Who Will Stop the Rain, and also an instrumental by Steve Howe, but not much else was very memorable. I think you should pass, unless you find it used.
Asia pretty much sucked after their third album (which wasn’t all that great). Whatever you do, do NOT buy this CD!!! It’s the most horrorific piece of crap you can imagine! Almost none of the original members in the band are on it, the vocals are done by Whatshisname Palmer from Emerson Lake and Palmer, and he’s almost never on key, and the whole thing sounds more like a bar band, than Asia.
