Which publicly funded college in Los Angeles has the highest percentage of Asians enrolled? What percentage of the student population is Asians?
Cal State LA = 21% identify their race as Asian/Pacific Islander

According to this article from the UCLA Daily Bruin, Asian/Pacific Islander enrollment in UCLA is 39.9%

I don’t have any figures for the California Design College.
There also appear to be 9 community colleges in LA:
Los Angeles City College
East Los Angeles College
Los Angeles Harbor College
Los Angeles Mission College
Pierce College
Los Angeles Southwest College
Los Angeles Trade-Technical College
Los Angeles Valley College
West Los Angeles College
I’m unable to find any info about Asian enrollment there.
Homer: Since you’re stipulating publicly funded institutions, wouldn’t you rather know what percentage of those Asians enrolled there are not exchange students? AFAIK, students from overseas who are here for the express purpose of attending those institutions are not eligible for the financial aid US citizens and Resident Aliens are.
No, I just wanted to know which school had the highest percentage of Asina students.
But, what I’m getting at, Homer, is “to what purpose?” What you’ll end up with is a raw datum, naught but a statistic with no meaning all by itself. So, why Asian students and why publicly funded institutions and why Los Angeles?
I think Monty has a point. There is some give and take involved here. Posting in GQ isn’t like googling for an answer. Real people are curious as the motive behind the question and it can’t be that hard to provide it.
Also, by “publicly funded” are you referring to public schools or any school that receives some public funds?
By my reckoning, there are three public four-year colleges in the CITY of Los Angeles: UCLA, Cal State LA, and Cal State Northridge.
If you expand this to Los Angeles County, you would also include Cal State Dominguez Hills, which is in Carson.
If you include nearby Orange County you will also find UC Irvine (which has a VERY high East Asian/Pacific Islander population) and Cal State Long Beach.
I also left out Cal Poly Pomona for Los Angeles County public colleges.
Monty’s question might be moot, as when many colleges report their racial makeup they do not include international students or non-resident aliens.
But his comment points out that you’d probably better know how its being reported.
it seems to me that there are forces at work trying to lure homer into an ambush.
i think that this is entirely childish; rants and captious quesitons should be in a different forum.
Cranky: Are you sure that the NRA & exchange students are included?
handsome: Your comment above most certainly belongs in another forum–sadly, this board doesn’t have one for “things I pulled out of the clouds.” The OP posted a query for a very restricted datum, so restrictive it’s essentially useless, and others have requested clarification as to what purpose he needs the data so to answer him with a more beneficial response.
er…Sorry, Cranky–"…NRA & exchange students are not included?"
Excuse me-- at what point did it become appropriate to tell OPers that their question wasn’t really what they wanted to ask?
If you have another, similar question to ask then ask it yourself in a seperate thread.
Please don’t tell another poster what they should have asked.
I did not tell anyone what they should’ve asked. I asked for more information regarding their question.
Monty: Nope, not sure, I just know what’s conventional. I guess what’s important is to know what is being reported and what’s excluded/
