Asians more likely to require transplants?

From an article quoted by cornflakes in the thread “Bi-racial medical transplants”:

Is this widely accepted as a fact? Is there a medical reason for this, or is it likely due to the difference in demographics (e.g. average age)?

I have heard it reported that kidney problems and diabetes are more prevalent in this group, especially those who have emigrated from those nations and are now living in first world countries.

Thanks. Not the answer I wanated to hear (being Asian myself) but I did find a number of cite for increased incidence of diabetes among Asians, e.g.:
