Ask a crazy cat lady a question

How did I end up with seven cats? Actually, I’m trying to make it back down to four…but the little farts are notably prolific. We’ve never let ours breed-all but one of ours are fixed(he’s little), but kittens and cats in distress either get found or…they find US.

In fact, one of ours is named Attilla, because he invaded-through the cat door-as a tiny kitten. Even then, he was a pushy little devil.

The latest one I rescued from off of a freeway on-ramp, about sixty feet in the air.
He gets shots, his intestinal issue diagnosed, and then hopefully to an adoption agency.

My significant other is perhaps somewhat more batty about cats than I. At one point, she had 10.

They go inside and out-yes, this means they could get killed, but cats who stay inside all the time tend to go batty and develop neurotic behavior.

Not to mention one of them would probably start spraying the furniture the way he now sprays outside. This is likely why he was abandoned by someone. My sweetie rescued him from where he had gotten himself stuck (and was being left to die) on top of an apartment roof. He was neutered already.

Our vet just built a nice new building:rolleyes:.

Do you feel the toxoplasmosis has finally taken over your higher brain functions yet?

Like what?

Yeah, I have three indoors and non-neurotic. The dog, on the other hand…

I have 9, six of them indoor only. The indoor cats are no more neurotic than the outdoor cats. Actually, the outdoor 3 are only out when the weather’s perfect, otherwise they’d rather be inside out of the cold, heat, rain, or wind.

I do have a lovely big screened porch though, with all sorts of fun places for them to hide and climb and snooze. They have their own door out there, so they can hang out on the porch as much as they want and watch they birds, chase the bugs and occasional lizard that get in, and snooze in the sun.

Personally I’d like to trade places with my kitties, though my husband says I do in fact live the same life they do!

No they don’t.

I have four cats (plus a dog) in a two-bedroom apartment. They’re not a bit neurotic (no more than is normal for cats anyway) although they do tend to invent drama since they have such stress-free lives.

Like other posters, I disagree on the neurotic behavior, but as I re-read your post I realized that you’ve got a lot of newbies coming in–and if a cat is feral, it would be well nigh impossible to socialize it–especially with all the action you’ve got going on at your place! I’m hoping you live in a nice, somewhat safe area for them to roam?

And rescuing dumplings from exit ramps and roofs also gives you extra credit in my book.

I was disappointed to learn that you have a significant other, however. Myself, I’m headed toward spinsterhood on rapidly balding tires, and I’ve only got 3 overindulged little dictators running around.

I’m sorry, but until you live alone, share Fancy Feast from the tin, and talk to yourself, I just don’t know if you quite deserve “crazy” yet. You understand, right?

I disagree… some cats are fine indoors, and others will drive you absolutely insane if you don’t let them out. Danger be damned, I simply cannot get in and out of the door without one of the brothers slipping past me. Conversely, the feline meatloaf in our house would rather die than go outdoors.

Speaking of the meatloaf, have you ever had a cat who didn’t know how to cover his business in the cat box? He gets in there and digs like he’s going to China, and then turns around to eliminate, and then digs like crazy again. But he didn’t cover! Dig Dig Dig Dig Dig Dig… but no cover! I’ve watched him, and he scratches on the plastic edge of the box a bunch. Muchof his fanatical digging isn’t even in the litter. Hubby says “he’s polishing the cat box again.” He’s cat box challenged. I’ve been forced to go cover his poo just to stop the stink. Blech!
