A take off of Vivian’s thread. Still a little green. Get the perspective from a black male from Atlanta and going to school in NY.
i think people are more afraid to ask you then to ask me…what do you think?
Yeah, I think its my bald head that frightens them off
Okay, I’ll jump in. Do you agree with Vivian’s assessment of why (some) black men like to date white women?
Have you ever been to Freaknik? If so, what did you think of it and would you go again?
I’ve always wanted to go.
Just an FYI that there was a thread Ask the Black Guy, courtesy of Doper stuffinb. It ran from 04-18-2001 until 06-05-2001 and drew 159 replies.
Well as for myself, I love all women. I’ve had relationships with black, white, and asian women. All in all I’d rather date black women but there just aren’t enough and by no means am I going to limit myself. Since the majority of women I do come in to contact with are white, it would seem that I have a propensity for white women. To me the reason for this is purely numbers. And as Vivian stated earlier there are a lot more easier white women than easy black women. I also think some white women put up with more garbage in relationships with black males than black women and that black males are aware of this.
As far as Freaknik is concerned, I was younger when it was really happening, before they cracked down, so I pretty much missed out. Within the last few years I wasn’t home while it was going on so I haven’t gotten an opportuinty to go. I certainly would if I could.
My bad, I had no idea. So unless anyone has anything the original Black Guy did not touch on, I guess this one is over.
Here’s one that focuses more on the “Guy” (versus the “Black”) of “Black Guy”. What’s with the username “Animalmother”?
I wasn’t around for the last one. I’ll ask you a few –
If you could be white, would you?
Is being a minority part of your “blackness” – ie, would being black mean something different if you lived in Jamica or someplace, where blacks were not the minority.
Are white people less racist than they used to be?
Its from the hard charging M60 gunner in Full Metal Jacket. A lot of people consider me crazy and intense so thats what my friends nicknamed me.
Don’t stop pn my account. Welcome to the boards, vivian and Animalmother!
Still trying to figure out how to quote
-If you could be white, would you?
No, I like being black and although it has its hassles I wouldn’t trade it to be white or otherwise
-Is being a minority part of your "blackness" -- ie, would being black mean something different if you lived in Jamica or someplace, where blacks were not the minority.
I think I would be different if I lived someplace where blacks were the majority. Probably wouldn’t get eyeballed going to certain stores, walking in a particular neighborhood, or get treated extra nice by those afraid of offending. Also probably wouldn’t have the same work ethic and desire to succeed as I do know. My parents always wanted me to contribute to society, succeed, break the mold and rise up. And I’ve vacationed Jamica and it was different to see that except for the most tourists, a whole country was the same color I was.
I think this has been asked in Vivian’s thread, but she’s not been in there for a while, so I’ll ask it again here: just what do we call you guys? Black? People of Colour? African-American ('cept that doesn’t work here in Australia)? Animalmother, you don’t seem to have a problem with the term “black”, and it’s the one I prefer because it’s plain and no-bullshit, but do a lot of black people get upset with it? And has “negro” always been offensive, or is that just the last couple of decades? And what’s with black people refering to themselves as “nigga”? Are black people still flirting with the term or has it gone back to being highly racist?
One last one. Do you notice people scared of you on the street at night? Does that piss you off? Or is it kinda useful? It happens to me -I’m white, but I’m huge - and I must admit it can be fun to be scary sometimes.
Great screen name by the way.
Take a look here
Also try ATMB.
Do you think white people smell like dogs when they get wet?
Actually, Im white, and I don’t mind.
I like dogs.
Although I fear, most people who know me would say I smell much worse than a dog. A dog smell would be a step up.
Vivian and Animalmother, welcome to the boards!
stuffinb, thanks for that link on vB codes. I’ve always wondered how folks do the boldface, italics, and stuff, but I still haven’t figured out how to do the smilies. You got any links for how to make the smilies? In particular I want to learn how to make the roll eyes smilie.
Right here, celestina.

I don’t use African-American. I’m more fond of black, black guy, black dude, black man, its all good to me. People call me the above but once in a blue moon I’ll get called a person of color. To me thats unnessary and too pc. Just call it like you see it. Negro is what black people used to be refered as and I think its offensiveness stems from the period in which it was used. By my definition its more archaic that offensive but not problematic as the word “nigga.” I’ve heard “nigga” countless times through music and people I know. It’s a word I don’t use because I don’t use racial slurs. I’ve asked other black guys why the say it and they insist “nigga” has an entirely different meaning that “nigger.” They’re synonymous to me and I make no distinction.

I have noticed that and it used to get me upset but now I welcome it. I’m about 6’ 185lbs, not a huge guy but big enough to scare away trouble. But people also tell me I have a mean face that might have something to do with it.

Never in my life have I heard that one.
Here’s a question:
- As a black person, do you feel more comfortable in Atlanta or New York? 2) Is the racial tension between blacks and whites as high as it was a couple years back? 3) What city in America makes you feel most “at home” besides your hometown?
(I ask this because my wife is black, and we’re still trying to figure out where to settle. We’re in Chicago now, which generally has racial harmony, but is very segregated. Nobody gives us any flack, though.)
BTW, welcome to the boards, Animalmother!
