Ask the guy in Antarctica

Well, I guess that answers the question “do you ever get bored being limited to Palmer Station?” You do seem to keep busy. No worries, reply when you can.

How would someone go about working down there? Does the NSF accept volunteers or is it all done through companies?

How much…pairing…is there, and is there enough privacy to take care of your own needs?

How long do you expect to stay? How long do you think you would want to? Are there people who have been there for years?

Thanks for answering my questions! Your food sounds amazing and yummy!

Do penguins really poop every time you pick them up?

Screw penguins, I wanna know more about these homemade Cheetos!

C’mon, you can’t ask him to do both - you see how busy he is!

Is Palmer wheelchair acessible?

Answers coming again soon.

What is it like to be in Antarctica? I mean I’m sure its cold but what do you do down there?

Any rats or cockroaches?

Does your internet connection go by satellite or undersea cable or something else, terrestrial radio perhaps? (I suppose it’s barely possible that they could run a branch cable to Palmer Station if there was already an undersea cable nearby…)

I don’t think anyone in this thread has asked for… Photo son, lots of photos.

I dont have time to answer right now but I am gonna play with the Ham Radio probably this weekend. Me and the Comms guy are gonna fool around a bit. It use to be the only form of communication back home to families and such. Now it is never used but fully operational and has its own room. I will post the times we will be on if anyone here wants to attempt contact via amateur radio.

How does one talk to you guys over Ham Radio? Seems like a big of a long distance call. UHF bouncing?

My question: is the OP coming back or did he get attacked by “The Thing”?

I am back. I am almost done with my season. I found keeping up with the thread a liilte more work than expected. I have new and bettter answers and stories now as well.

I will try to catch up here during the next several days or on the passage through the Drake back home.
