I scoff at your puny ice trays. I am eagerly awaiting the day that my DH brings me a 300lb flaker commercial ice machine.
You’ve already got your own Designated Hitter, and now you want to get a commercial ice machine?
How weird is that?
I knew that as soon as I used DH rather than SO I would get comments like that. Actually, at the moment it stands for "Dickhead Husband. Tomorrow he may go back to being “Dear Husband”, depends on when he gets over his PMS.
I just wanted to say that I don’t use ice, don’t like it in my drinks, and would also have no use for an ice maker in my fridge, at any cost. I didn’t realize until I read the OP that there were other people like me out there; I always assumed I was just a freak and the rest of the world loved ice banging into their lips when they take a drink, and occasionally causing the drink to slosh out onto your face and shirt. Not to mention the watering-down effect.
You kids have it too easy these days!
Back when I was young, we didn’t have any new-fangled ice makers! If we wanted a cold drink, we had to migrate NORTH! And we were glad to do it!
Legomancer, let me guess. You also drink water out of the tap instead of in those fancy (6 for only $2.99!) pre-filled plastic bottles…?
Bohemian.
When the wife and I take the annual model homes tour each year, it never ceases to amaze me that in these $500K+ houses, most of the space in the fridge’s freezer is taken up by this monstrosity that makes less ice per day than a separate under-counter ice maker. Since these houses are pitched to the corporate suck-up who schmoozes the boss a lot, one would think that said suck-up wouldn’t want to run out of ice while “entertaining”. Why do so few of these houses have an ice maker separate from the fridge?
For us poor folk, the “free” ice maker in the fridge can cost over $100 to fix, three or four years down the road. It also adds to the electric consumption of the fridge and adds the cost of a new water filter several times per year.
Last summer, our local Walgreens ran ads every other week offering 49-cent, 7lb. bags of ice. Over any given 3-month period ,I couldn’t use enough of this ice at its regular 99-cent price to justify the $30 expense of an ice maker’s water filter.
