Hi, RTFirefly, and welcome to my thread! I had a great time at your place Saturday night, and thank Jacki for being gracious enough to host the Teeming Millions.
Anyway, to answer your question, it’s in honour of a French dude named Simon de Montfort who seduced and married the sister of the king of England (she was a nun at the time), started and nearly won a civil war against the king, and oh, by the way, was the father of Parliamentary government. All this in the 13th Century.
Hi Gazoo! I love your weekly picks, and I wish I followed them for my picks league. Ahh well, at least we both got the Eagles wrong.
I really think the Birds will rebound to pound the Cowboys this week. I think McNabb will get about 50 yards rushing, and hopefully about 250 passing. 17-7 Iggles.
I think Cecil answered this one. Ahh, yes, he did. His answer’s as good as mine would be, if not better.
No, I doubt the Pope shits in the woods, as I understand that the Vatican is both in a very urban environment, and it has modern plumbing (if not medieval ideas).
Bears may be catholic in their lifestyle, but definitely not Catholic in their beliefs.
No, I guess Fuzzy Wuzzy was called “Fuzzy” for the same reason my 10th grade Chemistry teacher was called Fuzzy: because he was bald.
Glad you had a good time - it was great to see you again!
Jacki seems to have not only survived the experience, but has read through the threads on both boards, soaking in what people had to say about it afterwards.
Oh yes, a question (two, actually):
Where are the Snowdens of yesteryear?
Why does the porridge-bird lay his eggs in the air?
Because if he laid his eggs on the ground, or in nests, scientists would find out and that would cause a global panic when its revealed that males could get pregnant. A prediction: Stock in Trojan condom’s parent company would be very popular.
I like your thinking, dcnewsman, but she’s not Swiss, she’s Swedish. And, she’s an only child, and not a nun. I have no idea what the present political landscape in Sweden is (nor Switzerland, for that matter), but it’s quite unlikely that a civil war will erupt in the coming month.
Sorry for getting the country wrong. But I do have another question for you…do you work or just stay on the SDMB all day waiting to answer your questions? You seem to answer as soon as they are posted. Trying to get through those 100 posts in record time.
Hi Fletch! Love your username – Fletch is a favourite movie among my circle of friends and I. We oughtta start a Fletch-quoting thread one of these days.
Anyway, I had no idea there were informed republicans. I suppose, though, if they’re informed, than they can screw in a lightbulb – I mean, even an uninformed republican can screw in a lightbulb by him/herself.
I do work, really, but I’m at my desk 99% of the time. It’s also been a very quiet day for me. And, while I admit that I’d like to return to my usual sig sooner rather than later, I didn’t really expect this thread to catch fire like it has.
People ask me questions, and the polite thing to do is to answer them.
Thanks for asking! (And hey, you’re padding your post count quite a bit. I hope SqrlCub doesn’t get jealous. :p)
You do realize that a pair of something is one unit, do you not? And thus that Jack’s statement was grammatically correct (at least in that respect)?
Feel free to address each in a separate post.
And a third question for you: Who do you have winning tonight’s game, and who do you want to win, if the answer is different? I’m betting you want the McNairs - erm, the Titans, to win, so the Eagles will be closer to first place. But that’d put the Giants closer, too . . . so who d’ya want to win?
Yes, I admitted my error in a followup post. Look at the bottom of the first page.
Of course I want the Titans. First, as you said, it keeps the Eagles closer to the lead in the NFC East. Second, I kinda like the Titans.
I picked the Titans, but they’re my 1-confidence pick in the Pick 'Em league. I’ve been hemming and hawing on it. As soon as I hear that Eddie George is a definite “no” for tonight I’m prepared to swing my pick to the Skins.
Yes, the Giants will remain closer to first (actually, they’ll be alone in first) if the Titans win, but I don’t actively root against a team when it doesn’t benefit the Eagles, unless it’s the Cowboys.
Polypeptides are synthesized from a 50 : 50 mixture of [sub]L[/sub]-al-anine and [sub]D[/sub]-alanine. How many different isometric molecules containing 22 monomer units are possible?
