Okay, so what’s the deal with the huge Nike “swoosh” stickers I see in vehicle back windows? No, not all Mexican-Americans have the “swoosh,” of course, but every vehicle I’ve seen with a swoosh was driven by someone of Mexican descent.

Some programs in Telemundo say that they offer English dubbing in “close caption 3”. I don’t know which TV has “close caption 3”, since all the ones that I have seen have at most “close caption 2”.
Can anyone recommend some good mariachi CDs? I’ve lived in Texas for 4 years, and have had a few opportunities to hear it. I’d like to be able to get some sort of “Greatest Hits” or broad selection of the genre.
On top of my head, I can’t give you one “Greatest Hits” of Mariachi since for a long while Vicente Fernandez dominated that category. Still, try a great a “Greatest Hits” of Vicente Fernernandez, Javier Solis, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, or Pedro Fernandez. Begin with those.

Recently Cartoon Network decided to stop showing Speedy Gonzales cartoons because they are offensive to Mexicans. However, it turns out that a large number of Mexicans LIKE the character, seeing him as a positive representation of a Mexican (and one of the few such cases of this). Any thoughts on this?

Well, Mexican’s have a hate-love relationship with "Speedy’ Gonzalez. On one sense, he is not THAT offensive and he IS a hero in the cartoons. Still, since he is drawn as a mouse and yelping away “yepa, yepa, yepa!” it’s an image by knuckleheaded racists use against Mexicans. So o o o, in short, I won’t lose sleep about Speedy Gonzalez not being around.
