Ask the Singaporean guy!

wah so many people, why no one tell me got party here? ^^ i am singaporean and closer to average than cream of the crop with regards to the english language, so i’ll start by nitpicking the singlish… hehehe

‘la’ is from the chinese ‘啦’. you don’t use it for a question, so it’s should be ‘oi, why you so like dat?’ or change it to an imperative, ‘dun be so like dat la~’.

lan = penis, while lau = meaningless polite version.

vagina ~ chee bye
wah ~ I / oh (exclaimation)
wah lao eh, chao chee bye! ~ oh man, what a smelly cunt!
‘wah chee bye!’ ~ oh cunt!
‘caught no ball’ should be ‘catch no ball’. no messing with the tenses here.

so ‘wah’ in this case is an exclaimation rather than ‘I’. i’m being whooshed of course, but i am free to ignore that while nitpicking. ^^

a vision of a giant durian in its stead? ugh.

That’s no Durian, those are giant fly’s eyes!

hey, we really do have a party here, don’t we? So how many now?

 Me!
 Aankh
 Shijinn
 Tabbycat's not here, but he still counts.

damn, I know there were more!

heh, that’s just enough for a mahjongdope, or something…

If you guys don’t mind playing mahjong over the internet, that is. ^^;;

Is it true that thre are pirate radio stations where rival gangs challenge other gangs to fight by insulting them with rap songs?

What?! I’m sorry, you’re gonna have to provide me with a link for this one, I have no idea what you might even be thinking about. That aside, Singaporean gangs? Rap? Um, not gonna happen.

:: imagines average Singaporean thuggee rapping :: :eek:

I don’t have a link, it was something sent to me by an ex. Its called Kuntong VS Compuek. I have the MP3, just no way to send it. I have no idea what they are saying.

Ah. I see… it’s a joke mp3. :slight_smile: Here, if you scroll down or do a search for Compuek, you will find that the “artist” is named “ah beng”, which is kind of like a generic name for an ordinary “gangster” or “hick”, maybe a bit like Joe Q Public, except with less class. ^^;;

You can also find, just above the compuek entry, a song by the same “artist”, “Unchained melody”. Now, this one I have heard, and it’s basically a direct translation in Hokkien over the original song, which is absolutely hillarious because of the inherent crudeness of the language (Hokkien was, after all, a labourer’s language in Singapore) combined with the elegant English lyrics and melody - I suppose you’d have to be a native to understand it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Bottom line: I think it’s a “joke” mp3. ^^;;

Are there translations anywhere? I play it when I want to annoy people.

Eh, I’m pretty sure not. I’m not even too sure I can trranslate it myself, my Hokkien is far from top notch. In any case, the translation will probably have to be from a Singaporean, because of all the “Singaporeanisms” that aren’t in pure Hokkien, such as Malay words and things like that.

But I’m sure it serves it’s purpose well enough without a translation. ^^;;
