It certainly depends on the doctor, but I was 27, engaged, and nulliparous when I talked to my gyn and she was fine with it. She did ask what I would do if I changed my mind in 10 or 15 years, and I said my then-fiance and I were both fine with adoption if we ever (went crazy and) changed our minds.
I had a laproscopic tubal instead of Essure, and from Drain Bead’s description, I’d totally do the surgery instead of Essure. There was no pain at all, just some minor soreness the next day and just two tiny incisions. I did take two days off work and then had a weekend to recover, and I was groggy for those two days from the general anesthesia, but I’d still take that over the pain of the actual procedure.
I was at work the next day and was fine in three hours. I’ll take 20 minutes of pain to not be placed under general (with its attendant risks) and miss work.
Oh no, clearly you made the right choice for you and seemingly for most people. I’m not arguing that for a second. Me, I was put under for getting my wisdom teeth pulled because I have an inexplicably and often pathetically low pain threshold.
Congrats! Glad to hear it went well for you. Enjoy activities without worrying about pregnancy
I had mine done about 8 years ago - sounds like things have changed a bit. Or could just be different docs / different countries, etc. But either way - woo hoo and congrats
I forgot to say "Congratulations, Drain Bead!" It’s a satisfying step to take.
Oddly enough, as much as I wanted it, a few months after the surgery one morning it struck me that I was no longer a fertile woman and I went through a short, but significant period of mourning for the life passage.
