I’m graduating with my bachelor’s degree this weekend. I’m looking forward to the awesome Chicago job market (our rolly eye smilie isn’t sarcastic enough). I’ve been wondering whether I should put my associate’s degree on my resume.
My BS is in engineering and as it turns out, I’ll have two Assoc degrees. The one I am considering for my resume is a general liberal arts degree from the community college I attended before starting with engineering school. The other is sort of part of the bachelors and it’s not being considered for the resume.
My train of thought goes like this…
HR representative: “Ugh, another stack of engineers’ resumes. God, those engineers can be such weirdos sometimes. So anal about everything and talk about geeky…wait a second…this guy has an additional community college liberal arts degree! If this resume is accurate, he might be just the man to lead our Tahiti/Aspen, Colorado division and entertain clients at ballgames and nightclubs and make full use the corporate brothel so he can…” Well, the rest gets a little TMI, ifyaknowwudeyemean.
Anyway, is it worth it to put a significantly lesser degree on a resume? I wouldn’t consider it except that they really are academically antipoles and a little diversity in the engineering department might be welcomed. The last thing I want to do, however, is appear desparate and I don’t want to put anything that looks like useless filler.
What do you think? One more possibly significant tidbit: I don’t yet actually have the liberal arts associate’s degree. I’m two easy classes away, an art and an earth science. I was thinking of taking these over the summer for amusement first and the extra degree second.
