Lets assume the ICC wants to turn Americans on to Cricket by attacking baseball. What would your sales pitch be if hired?
Mine:
6 RUNS OFF ONE SWING? NOW THATS A REAL HOME RUN!
OUR PITCHERS THROW RIGHT AT THE BATTERS
GLOVES ARE FOR PUSSIES (okay that wont pass)
TIRED OF ENDLESS PITCHING SUBS?
PERSONALITY PERMITTED! (a shot at pitchers that retaliate v home run hitter bat flips and celebrations with throws to the head)
Other ways you would sell cricket v baseball? I also post this as a fan of both sports. Just trying to generate fun bar room talk . . .
Although I see we have to sell it by knocking baseball. Erm, I don’t know much about baseball, how about, “COME TO THE CRICKET, IT’S BETTER THAN BASEBALL”?
The length of the game is roughly the same as a baseball match and there is lots of eye-catching ball striking and there is 360 degree ball striking and a much greater variety of shot making than in baseball, a much greater variety of ball delivery than in baseball as well.
Perhaps you pitch is as “Cricket…like baseball but even more so (and you can try and hit the batsman’s head!)”
I’m afraid that it could only work if the US could field a competitive team, but fat chance at that ever happening. To true sports fans, I think explaining the rules while watching could be interesting. If you pay attention, there are many similarities to baseball, including the gamesmanship aspect. I also think Americans would be impressed with the fielding, especially when you consider that the ball is very similar and in fact a bit harder. That’s the first thing that caught my eye when I started following cricket regularly about a decade ago.
Also there are very few if any stadiums that can host a real cricket match. I’m pretty sure I started a thread on that topic and we came up with a handful…
