Scientists are estimating that this thing weighed 7 or 8 tons. We could have had another Chelyabinsk if things had been a little different!
Did anyone here see or hear it?

The Chelyabinsk meteor was roughly 1000x the weight of this one. And with maybe 50% more relative velocity to Earth. So on the order of 2000x the kinetic energy.
Still a cool event; it would have been fun to see. But not really something with much damage potential.
Almost certainly rocks on the ground with this one. I’ve seen vague rumors of pieces found in Medina county, but I haven’t seen any actual photos yet.
This is the kind of event that might happen once in a lifetime or more for any specific location but several times a year somewhere in the world. (The last significant one was 9 days ago in Germany.)
I didn’t see it, but I heard it. I had just stepped outside on my way to St. Patrick’s Day festivities (from which I just returned-- I’m exhausted), when I heard a big BOOM from somewhere to the south. My first thought was thunder, but it’s not the right weather for that. My next thought was that some enthusiastic Irishman had saved some big firecrackers for the day. I didn’t find out it was a meteor until I got to church.
I’m right on the west edge of Cleveland, near the lake.
I did not hear it, many others did. Lake county, east of Cleveland.
A couple of my friends up there said they felt it - rattled the windows of their homes - and one said he heard it too.
So how’s that space program going.
I was in bed (NE of the airport), head a loud crash, thought one of my local birds had flown into my bedroom window. But then I heard the afterrumbles slowly diminishing into the distance. Found out what caused it 3 hours later. Apparently landed (if it didn’t all vaporize of course) somewhere south of the airport.
Put out the word to everyone, if there is gooey stuff oozing from the middle of a rock, do not poke it with a stick!
The area where pieces of this most likely fell includes an area named River Styx. I’d love to own a meteorite named River Styx.
(Years back one fell in La Mancha, which would have been an excellent name, but sadly it ended up being officially called Puerto Lápice.)
I have driven in that area numerous times. I wonder what kind of developer names his main street after a river in Hell?
Well, after all, y’know, Cleveland Rocks!
There was once a space rock from La Mancha, whose final name I don’t want to remember…
Sounds like someone who doesn’t want superpowers!
It’s pretty cool that the latest Superman movie was filmed here, and they used the Guardians’ ball field, and the name of the Metropolis team is…the Meteors!
I somehow didn’t hear it. I was either in the car on the way to tai chi class, or at tai chi class in Bedford (southeast suburb). My mom didn’t hear/feel it (southeast exurb). But plenty of people who live in this very same southeast exurb reported hearing & feeling it.
My friend who lives on the east side of the city right up on the lake says she thought a tree fell on her house. Another friend’s mom who lives in a far east exurb said she also thought a tree fell. My boyfriend who lives nearby to that said the same thing.
My cousin in a west suburb heard it. My aunt on the near east side of the city didn’t hear it.
The DART mission was a success.
I neither heard nor felt it; I was at work (in Parma) at the time. My wife, who works up the road in Garfield Heights, said she heard a soft boom that sounded like someone dropped a large object far away. However, my phone completely blew up with friends/family/local FB groups posting at the same time, from all across the NEO area. Based on that, I guessed right away it was either an earthquake or a bolide, since not much else would cause a noise loud enough to be heard at the same time across several counties. More than a few ppl seriously thought that we were being attacked by an Iranian missile… ![]()
I thought the big ass tree next to my house had fallen on it, it was quite loud and shook the whole house
