I toured the Stewart Mirror Lab in Tucson last year. This is the facility that made the mirrors for this telescope, and also the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (I have photos of the LSST mirror in production). I highly recommend this free tour to anyone interested in telescopes.

I used to live in Tucson and still have family there, I need to make a “vacation” to check it out.
ETA: retirement is fun, especially when one can drag grand-kids around and watch their jaws drop finding out the wonders of our universe.
