At what age is a man too old to wear cargo shorts?

[del]Purse[/del] Man-bag?

I wanna know what Business Insider thinks of those.

By the time I’m too old to wear cargo shorts, I’ll be too old to give a shit about what people think of my casual dress. Which is now, I guess.

The flat chino-style shorts they keep trying to push as the shorts I “should” be wearing look to me like little British schoolboy shorts. If my concern was being too old for cargo shorts, I sure wouldn’t take the alternative that makes me look like the headmaster might rap me with a ruler.

People who care about fashion trends will tell you that cargo shorts and cargo pants are out of style of everyone, regardless of age. I still wear cargo shorts, though. Cargo pants, not so much.

Wait, do I have to take off the pair I have on now?

I’m in my 50’s and they aren’t going anywhere.

I’m a 50-year-old woman, and I am not giving them up. I am not about to begin carrying a purse now.

Fortunately, I stopped caring what people think of my clothing before I got too old for shorts.

Cargo shorts are the kind of thing you wear in the summer when you’re mowing the lawn, or you’re doing manual labor (laying tile, concrete, putting a roof on).

But cargo shorts make men look like a toddler if they wear them ‘just around’.

If it’s AZ or NV or the tropics I’ll cut you some slack.

I never wore cargo shorts. I went straight from trousers to the cargo kilt. I only wear trousers when I have to (the kilt works poorly when riding a recumbent bicycle).

I’ll admit that I relegated my cargo shorts to lawn-and-DIY detail last year after seeing similar articles. Not because I was shamed out of them necessarily, but I also have some nice looking shorts in the chino/khaki family and agree that they look better. So I will wear my cargo shorts until the hem rips off the legs and the crotch has ripped out, but I won’t likely replace them.

I do, however, wear ‘tactical’ style pants to work 90% of the time, and they are for all intents and purposes cargo pants. They’re super comfy and look sharp with polo in the right environment.

Now board shorts…there’s gear you shouldn’t be caught wearing unless you’re about to be in the ocean/pool.

I don’t like them. Otherwise, I agree with you 100%.

When did you first put them on:eek:

When you’re too old to Rock 'n Roll.

Their second album is awesome!

I like how the zoom magnifier glass sits right over the crotchal area.

Anyhoo, cargo shorts are for all ages!

What’s the point of growing old if you continue to care what other people think? Wear whatever you like, and tell those smart-mouthed kids to get off your lawn.
On the other hand, I’ve spent a lifetime trying to get my father to give up high water pants. Plus, his waistbands are migrating toward his armpits. I’d be thrilled to see him in properly situated cargo shorts.

Well so what if I’m in my 50s, it just so happens my few “cargo” shorts/pants are quite far from being worn out in any way, and I don’t get rid of perfectly useable clothes that fit well for no reason other than fashion.

There is no age limit in being comfortable ! I have neighbor that in his 70’s and he wear cargo shorts so go for it ! My neighbor was wearing his today b/c it was so warm out. The nice thing about being old is you don’t have anyone telling what you can wear or eat !

I like men in cargo shorts. Then I don’t have to carry a purse and can give him my crap to carry since women’s clothes tend to be short on pockets. I wouldn’t wear them to work in a bank, but for casual weekend wear they’re fine.

You’re never too old to wear whatever you enjoy wearing so long as it breaks no laws.

You do realize how tremendously your two paragraphs contradict each other, right?
mmm

Who puts toddlers in cargo shorts? When my youngest was a toddler, not so long ago, most of his shorts were plain straight cotton shorts. They’d have been much closer in style to the chino ones than cargo shorts.

Besides, no toddler needs that many pockets nor can any good come out of what they’d fill them with.
