Atheists, agnostics, and other skeptics: what are you glad about this year?

My mom, 88, is a believer but she managed to express my opinion best. She said, “I’m thankful that I am still around.” Since I don’t believe in life after death, that pretty much sums it up for me.

I had open heart surgery. I’m thankful to be alive.

I object to the framing of the question. Why should nonbelievers be thankful for anything much different than various believers? I don’t waste time on godthink, but I am deeply thankful that my life has many wonderful things in it. I don’t care to be asked as if I ride the special bus around town.

The word is a little slippery, but in this context I don’t think you have to be thankful to anyone, and can be just thankful for.

So much to be thankful for this year. Last year, Jason and I had several long talks about the fact we couldn’t seem to get pregnant and stay pregnant and that we would “be okay” with just the two of us. Surprise! Pregnant. Bigger Surprise! Stayed pregnant (almost 33 weeks). And of course, we have wonderful friends/family, a lovely house (and finally, living room furniture!), good jobs, a new car, and the world’s cutest cat, Diego. When I think of all of our blessings, I get all weepy (damn pregnancy hormones). I hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving!

Forgot a couple:

I’m thankful Obama and same sex marriage all won big.

And I’m thankful it appears Romney won 47% of the popular vote. I know there’s no practical application of this one, but I like beauty nonetheless.

I’m sure Og is just some weird typo Athena. I’m not playing to shoot you in the knee in any way for heresy.

I’m so glad we made it through this year from hell nothing else matters. I am grateful to my daughter and brother for making that happen. I’m grateful to the Child Advocacy Center and the Exchange Club for helping us with therapy and support. I thank the taxpayers for helping us with food and medical care and my fabulous “Obamaphone”.

And I’m grateful for Dopers, and I mean that most sincerely.

I’m thankful I was able to find a place to move to on short notice, and it’s even BETTER than the place I’m currently living (and cheaper to boot). I’m also grateful that I will no longer be drafted to do yardwork or shoveling, because it’s a condo.

I’m grateful that my sister’s girlfriend hasn’t succumbed to her 2nd bout of breast cancer (she’s already had one mastectomy and she’s only 47 :().

I’m grateful to still have my job and be doing fairly well in an economy where a lot of people can’t find work.

I’m happy that a majority of people didn’t buy Romney’s lies. I’m grateful that health reform will provide insurance (and thus health care) to a lot of people that are currently uninsured or uninsurable.

I’m thankful that recreational weed was legalized in 2 states. Even if it only turns out to be a symbolic gesture, it’s the first steps toward legalizing it on a federal level.

I’m grateful I still have two hands, two ears, two breasts, and two eyes.
