Athiest Dopers do you find this amusing?

The fundies, anyway.

I have never understood this “speaking in tongues” stuff. First, the Gospel account of pentecost says that the apostles had instantly been able to be understood by all people in their audience. It says NOTHING about people speaking unintelligible gibberish. What the "holy rollers’ describe as “speaking in tongues” and what actually is described by the Gospels are two different things.
So what IS glossollalia? It sounds more like dscriptions of demonic posession (ala “THE EXORCIST”).
The idea that somebody rolling on the floor and uttering gibberish is receivng a “Gift” from God is something I find utterly nonsensical.

I would look on such a scene with a little disgust, some amusement, and probably a little contempt. In my mind they are acting that way to impress their fellow worshipers, not becuase god has suddenly come into their lives. At the same time I feel they should have a right to act as insane as they like unless they are hurting other people.

And I think that MrO was playing on that misspelling.

I hope and pray they don’t pick on me.
And I wonder what the fuck is the point of half of it. Mad gabbing in tongues … I’m english, so are you. why would God not want us to understand each other?

It makes me angry that people are trying to manipulate youth that way.
And it makes me frightened that people get so worked up over fairytales- they become truly dangerous.
