Atlanta Dopers: What kind of neighborhood is 25th St NW (near the Amtrak station)?

My girlfriend and I are looking at the possibility of staying in a rental property around there for a week or so late August, wanted to have an idea of what kind of neighborhood we’d be in.

Just for a week? It isn’t a bad place to stay - nothing really stands out to me either hugely positively or negatively. You are a close drive to all the interesting things, you could walk to the grocery store and quite a few restaurants.

What are you looking for exactly?

(I lived in Atlanta for three years up until two years ago - we still own a condo in Midtown)

Just a general sense of the neighborhood. We’re both pretty flexible, but we don’t want to be in a demilitarized zone.

You wouldn’t be interested in renting it out the week of Dragon*Con, would you?

That area is quite safe (for in town Atlanta), so I wouldn’t worry about that. It is a pretty neat little neighborhood with some older rental units spread in between the larger complexes. Very wooded, like most of residential Atlanta.

You will be within walking distance of a few great restaurants: Ted’s Montana Grill, R. Thomas, Cafe Intermezzo, just to name a few. There is also a relatively new Kroger within walking distance. Other than that, it’s a bit of a no man’s land for tourist stuff on Peachtree St… Most of the stuff tourists want to see is either north (Buckhead, Lenox Mall, Phipps Mall) or south (downtown, all of the convention centers) or there. However, being within walking distance of Peachtree will make it very easy to use MARTA.

For one week, I say go for it. I’ve known a few people who rented in some of the larger complexes in that area. They didn’t have any problems except dealing with the management companies. For one week, you shouldn’t have that issue.

Thanks, all. My girlfriend had also emailed a friend of hers who lives near Atlanta, and her reply runs along these same lines, so I made our reservation this morning.

Nope - already rented

Glad you found a place, as Red Stilettos says, it isn’t a bad neighborhood.
