Atlanta in the first weekend of December

That pretty well sums up when I’ll be there.

For someone who’s never been to Atlanta, what’s a must-see/must-do vs “ehhh…save your time”?

About all I know of in ATL is the headquarters for Coca-Cola, but I’m sure there’s more.

Don’t go to Coke World. Waste of time…

One of my favorite places in the world, not just ATL is the Star Bar. Their calendar doesn’t extend to Dec but it’s always a cool place. For more upscale fun I wouldn’t want to miss the Buckhead area.

I’m sure some of them GA dopers will be around shortly. . .

The VARSITY.
See a ball game.
Catch a show at the variety playhouse or the tabernacle.

Don’t miss the jewel of Atlanta night life, the Clermont Lounge.

I liked the Coke Museum. It’s like something Willy Wonka would do, were he a corporate shill. You may want to head out to Stone Mountain, but then again, you may not. There’s the CNN Headquarters tour, which I haven’t done, but a lot of people do it.

If you have time/the inclination for a day trip, I’d head up through north Georgia and hit the Lookout Mountain area around Chattanooga. Lotsa wineries on the way up, if you’re in to that kind of thing. Once you’re there, there’s the Aquarium, which could easily eat a whole day up by itself. Ruby Falls, Rock City, Gatlinberg, all that stuff is good.

Oh, and if you have the time and money, see something at the Fabulous Fox. It’s magnificent.
