2 large temples…check.
Concentric canals…check.
Copper & other metals common in the area…check.
Frequent flooding…check.
Well well well.
Perhaps not nonsense after all.

But, um, not an island.
Interesting stuff. Remember that Troy used to be “just nonsense.” Same for Ubar. Not saying this is Atlantis, but the find is mysterious enough on its own…
Told you!!!
The location’s about right- I’ve heard that its thought that the reason that the people in the Basque regions of upper Spain and France speak a language so totally unrelated to other languages is that they all migrated there from Atlantis when the flooding occurred.*
*Note: The only cite I have for this is a friend of my Spanish teacher.
I’m having a little trouble accepting that there are “rings” in the photo. I certainly don’t see any (other than the ones that have drawn on there, obviously). This could be like Lowell “seeing” canals on Mars.
From the article:
If you dig circular canals around an area, the land in the middle is an island.
Artificial, but still an island.
I see one ring, or rather a section of one, but I don’t see the concentric rings that they’re talking about.
To me, the most amazing thing about Atlantis is that it movies. People keep ‘finding’ it in totally different locations.
While Troy turned out to be exactly where people had always said it was.
But I’ll hold off judgement here until we have more data from somebody who isn’t overplaying his hand in an effort to get funding and permission to dig on public land.
It movies because it has such cute little footies.
The decendents of Atlantis are living on Titan, in a forest, with a creature in a turtleneck sweater.
Didn’t you ever see Fire Maidens of Outer Space?

Paging SeeThruArt!
DAMMIT! :smack: The remarkable part about this mythical continent/island/city/civilization is that everybody keeps finding it in different places all around the Atlantic. I’ve never seen any of the plethora of movies about it.
This is clearly a case where more study will either debunk or prove the claims. Certainly, there’s enough evidence of at least one ring to do a study. The one ring could be an old meteor crater.
From the OP’s linked article:
I can’t even see more than a partial match to the legend. And even that is a stretch. Also, why leap to the conclusion that it is Atlantis, as opposed to some mound builder-type tribe or any of a hundred other peoples?
As regards the quote from the article:
It’s been a while since I read the reference in Plato, but why in the world would Plato have gotten this story from Egyptian?
Also from the article linked in the OP:
What rectangles? All I see are JPEG artifacts. :dubious:
Because the story originated in Egypt.
