ATM or ATM Machine?

I hereby renounce my previous position of acronyms as adjectives. Further thought has revealed to me a host of acronyms I use as nouns. And oddly enough, one of them is MSDS. We always refer to the MSDS, not MSDS sheet.

And while I always say PIN number, once I stopped thinking about it I realized that I never say ATM machine. I always say “Money machine.”

I thought that was A2M.

Very curious as to the point of this comment.

I used to to appliance repair including “hot water heaters” ----never had a problem with that particular usage.

The thermostat on water heaters actually cycle between 120 and 140 degrees. So you are generally taking hot water and making it hotter.

The only time you are heating “cold” water is the very infrequent times you have turned your water heater off.

I wondered if PA had lost it’s mind when they sent me a CDL license. :smack: Then, I remembered that I’m in PA-nothing should be a surprise when it comes to idiocy.

I typed “these boards” once, years ago, and several fellow SDMBr’s corrected me in that this is one message board with several forums.
That’s all. Were they wrong?
Peace,

You could try saying ABM (Automatic Bank Machine, some Canadians say it) or Green Machine!

I think you folks suffer too much from ADD disorder.

I alluded to that very example, and noted that you can usually tell whether someone’s talking about banking or porn by the context. Who actually says the acronym “ATM” out loud in that context, anyway?
