Attack ads "accuse" politician of believing in evolution

“And furthermore, I have definitive proof that my opponent TURNED ME INTO A NEWT!!!”

“I will be answerable to our Lord. My opponent answers to Satan.”

So strange when I see stuff like this in today’s era. Did they teach creation theory in schools like 100 yrs ago? Was it there then removed? Why such a push now to teach something that was probably never taught in a school anyway??

And btw… the Mason-Dixon line is on the southern border of PA. So technically MD, DC, VA are also south of mason-dixon. Not sure you can lump us in with places like Alabama. If I go any further south than Richmond VA, they consider me a yankee.
edit Woot! my Charter member title is back. thanks Ed!

No, creationism as a movement actually didn’t pop up until the 50s or so, and wasn’t too organized or strong until maybe the 80s. It seems that religious people weren’t quite so fundy and aggressive about the issue until I guess maybe they viewed their traditional world starting to collapse with the social changes in the country at the time, which galvanized them into a movement to act as stupid as possible to fight it.

I don’t know about 100 years ago, but I was in school during the fifties and sixties and the only religious “education” we got then was in the form of elementary school Christmas plays and a daily prayer which most kids regarded perfunctorily at best.

Imo, it’s only been since the left got such a bug up its butt about religion and set about trying to eliminate it from public view that strong efforts to promote it have begun coming from the right.

Yeah, once the religions other than Christianity started insisting on being recognized, everything just went to shit.

It wasn’t until we got rid of school prayers that they started to bug us about having school prayers. Until then, we just had school prayers.

I was in school in the early 60s and did not think it was perfunctory. They used a different version of the Lord’s Prayer than I was used to and I had to decide whether to add on the few words on the end and be ridiculed or to be silent and be subjected to eternal damnation.

I don’t see what’s so hard about this, just pray at home before you get to school.

Now there’s a ringing endorsement for government sponsorship of religion. “Bring back school-mandated prayer and Christian-themed holiday celebrations! Restore the good old-fashioned American tradition of religious apathy!”

I love how conservatives continually tell other conservatives that we need government sponsorship of religion to keep our faith as a Christian nation active and strong, and then turn around and try to tell liberals that government sponsorship of religion doesn’t actually make anybody more religious or more chauvinistic about their religious beliefs.

And when the subject is removing “In God We Trust” from money or “Under God” from the pledge, they fiercely defend keeping them with argument that they are meaningless. If they’re so meaningless, remove them and STFU!

Cue the scary music
Duh duh duuuuuhhhhnnnnnnn

I believe it’s currently called "talking out both sides of your face’

or neck.

or ass?

It could also be called “fictitious”, since I said nothing to suggest the attitudes that Kimstu and Revtim are making fun of. Cute how they make up their own ridiculous conservative arguments and then condemn conservatives for having them. I would have posted a rebuttal sooner but frankly I’m getting fed up with the dishonesty around this place. It’s omnipresent and never-ending. Comes a time when you just have to stop pissing in the wind.

(Though obviously I haven’t quite got there yet. :))

You really can’t see that they’re parodying you?

I said “they”, so unless you are multiple people, I don’t know why you thought it was you specifically I was referring to.

Ah, but when you cross the Alabama border, there’s a sign:

Welcome to Alabama. Please set your watches back 120 years.

Hey…I lived in Georgia for 2 years working as a college teacher.

I had spent the previous years in Wyoming and Montana. The politicians there considered every dollar spent on your pitiful salary to be a waste. I even heard a politician say that he changed his mind on an issue when he found out a majority of teachers liked it (he changed from liking it to not liking it).

My first experience with a Georgia politician was like a slap on the face. It took me a few minutes to discover that he REALLY, TRUELY seem to care about education in Georgia. I met several others and the results were similar.

Now Georgia has a shitload of problems but, damn, give me those Georgia poiliticians I met over the insulting fucktards of Wyoming and Montana any time!

But if it’s different, and came from a different religion or denomination, then you are cavorting (or contorting?) with heretics. So, yer pretty well fucked over anyway

Hey! I for one am not inbred.

I was conceived in a date rape.

Sure, between 1870 & 1890.

The good ol’ boys killed 'em. Literally.

Sorry, it was between 1865 & 1877. Shorter than I remembered.
