Yesterday afternoon 2 soldiers in Cuba tried to hijack a plane at Jose Marti International Airport, they were stopped after a brief firefight. The story is really weird though, a group of 3 recruits had escaped from an army post a few days before with some automatic weapons, and there had been an island wide manhunt. Then yesterday two of them show up at the airport with an army colonel as hostage and tried to hijack a plane.
It gets weirder, all the photos released of the plane have the plane’s registration and airline name blacked out . At first I thought there was nefarious reason for this, but it looks like the plane belongs to a Spanish tourism airline, Hola Airlines, so I can’t really figure out why they authorities felt the need to black out the name, specially knowing that questions would be asked.
By the way the army recruits were identified as two 19 and one 21 year old, which makes them draftees, part of Cuba’s obligatory military service. All in all it appears that two or three high ranking military officers were killed either in the initial escape attempt or during the hijacking, so it’s a sure bet that the recruits are either already executed or are about to be.
Very strange story.
