Go to the FAA site and get your new license. It’s $2 and you can use your state drivers license or Passport picture electronically.

Really? I have a plastic license (not that I’ve exercised the privileges 
), and the only pictures on it are of Orville and Wilbur.
I may have stated that incorrectly. If you still have a paper license you will need to replace it. The new ones have picture ID’s. It’s been required to carry a picture ID for some time in addition to the license. I’m still researching if the plastic license has an expiration date since it is meant to be a more secure version of the paper one.
Update. My new license did not have my picture on it despite me being asked to choose one when I ordered it. Could not find any reference that the Congressional mandate of a picture had any kind of date on it. The last official word was that pilots had to carry a picture ID and that was reiterated with the letter that came with my license.
Is there a deadline for this?
I haven’t used my privileges for nearly three years now (no money, you know). Is it a matter of I just have to replace it before I start flying again, or am I screwed somehow or other?
For $2 I’ll do it now, just wonder if there’s anything else I have to worry about at the same time.
It costs nothing to get new licenses online. It costs money if you snail mail them the request form. At least that was true when I did it last month.
The new credit-card style licenses do not have pictures on them, except of Saints Orville & Wilbur.
AIUI, the intent is that eventually they will have your face on them like driver’s licenses do, or eventually the Feds will be hooked into the state DMVs so your driver’s lciense picture is retrievable from the data on your pilot’s license.
My plastic license doesn’t have a magnetic strip, but I’ve seen others that do. Is Uncle gonna bust my ass on a ramp check?
Alternatively, if your certificate still has your SSN on it, you can send in the form here to have it removed. They automatically sent me a new certificate when I did that, and there was no charge.
