Attention smokers: everything in your house is ruined.

And you come to a board devoted to fighting ignorance rather than promoting and praising it?

Thank you for sharing your definitions, though I do not share them.

Cripes what an idiot. A babbling one at that.

He’s hoping that we will confuse rambling off in tangents as a sign of intelligence. I’ve seen stoners try that with much better comprehension.

Possibly he’s posting while high?

The all-wood furniture might be in trouble, too. The nicotine residue impregnates the varnish/urethane finishes and softens them. Any cleaner that you would use to remove the nicotine will also remove the finish. The good news is, it can make stripping the furniture a bit easier, depending on the method.

So you’re on a mission to “clean up” humanity? Sounds noble doesn’t it? The exact same excuse used by tyrants and perpetrators of genocide, but that’s just a coincidence - probably doesn’t mean anything. And perhaps you’re more evolved and prefer the kinder, gentler cleanse of internment or segregation in your war on “ignorance”. Or some sort of caste system? Tattoos, perhaps? Like “This person wants what Seanette wants”, “This person doesn’t want what Seanette” wants?

So, how’s that working out? Making progress? Any hope of success? There’s that pesky little freedom thing, ya know - the freedom you have to decide you know best what people should think, believe, want and how they should live? Everybody else ***also ***has that freedom. Of course, where there’s bad news there’s good news which is that you’ll never run out of things to fight about! So you’re set for life!

You really need to read some our tattoo threads.

Hey, at least Bo Pai is fun, and hasn’t gotten themselves banned in a week. Count your blessings. Possibly as curses.

Rambling like an idiot doesn’t get you banned or I would have been shown the door a long time ago.
It’s that his rambling isn’t very enlightening, nor entertaining.

Still think he’s high.

Maybe you have a much higher standard of what constitutes entertainment than I do, but who’s the last poster who said that a habit commonly known to be judicially deadly could give you situational superpowers, and meant it?

This particular variety of poster does not come along every day to the SDMB. At least, not the ones who are able to restrain themselves enough to keep from getting banned. In their own way, they give every discussion a certain insane flavor. I think they should be conserved.

So Cecil’s a fascist dictator. Who knew.

I don’t think he’s high. When I was in college people who were high made a lot more sense than he does.

I don’t understand the venom evinced here. You don’t have to associate with smokers. Just stay away from them. People who eat some types of spicy food can smell pretty gross too. But would you excoriate them in such a fashion or is it only smokers who inspire such hatred?

BTW I’m 66 and haven’t smoked since my 30s. My partner still does though and, oddly enough, I love her to pieces and the only time she smells of smoke is when she’s smoking.

I live in China. Care to explain how I’m supposed to “not associate” with smokers when damn near every male in China smokes in public, regardless of the venue?

Oh, and where is the “venom” in that post?

Excuse us for a moment.

[verifying forum …]
Pai, that is complete and utter bullshit. Challenging accepted theories is not fucking “daring to not know”.

I know more about the history of not just incomplete but completely wrong headed scientific theories than you will ever have a clue about in your miserable ignorant life, and I can assure you that the drivel you spout is not daring anything.

Do you want to know what you are really talking about? Some posit that children’s immune systems develop better when they are exposed many different “germs” early on.

Unless you are talking about the very old knowledge that people can build up tolerances to certain poisons. That is possible (to be brief) because the definition of a poison is “too much”, and metabolism is very adaptable.

However, I have never in my curious, skeptical, woo-believing*, and reasonable well-read life every read that anyone could develop a tolerance to a powerful chemical carcinogen. Please enlighten me if you have a link to a peer-reviewed study.

Yes, scientists can be (are) narrow minded arrogant ideologues, but they are still more reliable than those who are ignorant and proud of it.

Yes, scientists, current theories, and conventional wisdom all need to be challenged, but trust me, little one, you are not up to the job.

  • “woo” being defined as “the possibility humans don’t know everything yet”

I sell new-in-box pocket knives on ebay. I suppose the Chinese-made cardboard box is ruined, eh?

??? Are you sure you posted this where you intended to, the_diego?

Of course he did. Monty lives in China. He claims everybody smokes in China. He also claims that items are irrevocably damaged when exposed to smokers. Therefore, according to the logic in this thread, everything made in China is ruined forever.

the_diego was riffing on the thought processes shown by some of the more militant posters in this thread.

I never made that claim.

The irony is practically palpable.

Close enough, asshole. You said “damn near every male”. To insist on precision there just makes it look like you’re trying to weasel out of something you did say. Not surprising having read some of your posts here:

But…

I really don’t think you understand what a jackass you sound like. You make sweeping statements, and then weasel out of them by claiming it wasn’t “everybody”, it’s just “everybody you’ve met.” As if the difference is supposed to mean a damn thing.

Shut the fuck up with that.

When we went house-hunting, we gave nicknames to each house we looked at.

I’ve related a time or two on these boards about the house we simply called “Cigarette House” …

This house went beyond “a smoker lived here”.

More like “a genetic anomaly - a woman who smoked two packs a day for sixty years, and rather than dying horribly of cancer and other diseases like most people would, was slowly mummified from the inside out by tar and nicotine - lived here”. She was still alive - a sort of cheerful, wrinkled, smoking cherub, who greeted us at the door while lighing a new smoke from the butt of the old.

I dunno what the original colour scheme of the place was - the walls were now brown. And slightly sticky. Just being in there caused me to wheeze … and I’m an ex-smoker myself!
