Attn: Nothern Hemisphere

Poms come from England only.

What you northern types gotta understand about winter in Australia and New Zealand, is that sure, it’s not as cold (in most places) as a harsh Northern winter, but that’s precisely why it’s worse. Our buildings are designed for summer, and we don’t get wonderful, crisp -5C days where the powder snow crunches underfoot, the kids are off building snowmen in a winter wonderland, and the adults are sipping mulled wine around a roaring log fire, or in their centrally heated homes in a T-shirt watching videos. Winter in Sydney will give you days of 5 - 10C. No snowmen, no hot schnapps, just a miserable run out of the shower to get your clothes on in your weatherboard or fibro house (or a modern brick one with summertime oversized windows), then a slow miserable trudge to the bus stop in the rain. We are not very good at winter here.

Pssst jjimm, the Kiwis hate the Poms too, but you’d never notice because they hate the Aussies so much more. (Just joking, my ovine enamoured cousins)

It’s 65 degrees F. and overcast here in western Washington state, U.S.A., so I assume we have, as directed, sent our beautiful summer down to you.

Thanks in the form of Kiwi chocolate of course accepted – e-mail for address.

Oh, your winter rains on you? Boo hoo hoo. I tell ya, it’s hot here in the summer as a ruse to keep us here and have us forget winter. Otherwise everyone would move away.

I should whine more often. It was brilliantly sunny ALL day .Thank you for sharing Northern Hemisphere

Oh sooooooooooooo much more TheLoadedDog mutter mutter something about basketball and bloody Aussies

The rain was way worse last winter than this one, my fellow Kiwi. I recall slipping and sliding down bloody drives, black with moss 'cause the owners hadn’t cleaned 'em, delivering pamphlets. UUGGHH!

And I’m half Pom. So, I get the licence to say “wellies” if I want to. So there! :stuck_out_tongue:

And did you enjoy the sunny wellie-free day Ice? I whined hard to get it for us.

::sigh:: It’ll be winter soon. I wish we could keep our 112F/44C year round.
::bundles up::

Hmmm… We’re definitely in autumn now (that’s fall for you Americans). The leaves are turning pretty colours, the temperature’s dipped to 16C, the air is crisp, and there is just a a slight threat of rain.

Bliss. I love autumn.

It was a wellie-free day, only because I wasn’t hangin’ out clothes today, just letting them air by the ranchslider. Reckon you could apply for a spot on th’ weather part of the news … “Tomorrow, it’s going to absolutely piss down with rain for all concerned … but wait! Hold on, calm kiwi might have a good ol’ sunny-weather-conjurin’ whine for us, tonight …over to you, ck.”

Good on yer, Kiwi!

You’re not touching it until we’ve had our fair share. Other than two weeks in August, it’s been gray and rainy since early June here.

We may actually have to import rice again to make up for the low yield. I wonder if the government is going to intentionally choose the lowest grade stuff like last time, in order to keep everyone convinced that foreign rice is crap.

After last winter we deserve all the summer we can get. Let me know when you have seven months of snow and freezingness. We’re keeping the sunny skies for as long as possible !

You can have the smog and humidity if you want, though.

from Toronto, land of weather extremes

Saturday’s weather report:

82 F.
Skies, clear with just enough clouds for some variety.
Ocean: Sparkling, diamondlike points of light on a dark bluish grey ground that shined like polished metal, esp. when viewed over a glass of Chardonnay at The Lobster, at the head of the Santa Monica Pier.

Just thought I’d share!

Se yesterday I praised the weather instead of whingeing…it pissed down all day again. I am a weather GOD!

RAIN?!! You guys have RAIN! LOOOOXURY!

Half yer bloody luck mate, at least you’re not bound for stage 3 water restrictions.

Heh. It stopped raining a little while ago, but I spent most of the afternoon/evening trapped in the uni library, unable to walk home because it was bucketing down and I have no more dry shoes other than the ones I’m wearing. Technically I could have made inroads to my essay (due in a few weeks), but then I remembered internet acess at the commons, so I holed up here for a few hours and lo! when I look up, it’s stopped raining!

Obviously the rain just wanted my attention, and, when I ignored it in favour of the SDMB, it got jealous and went away.

Now I’m all set to walk home, so I shall have to think very hard about things that are not the weather, otherwise the rains will come back, and soak my last pair of shoes.

Perhaps the rain just wants me to go barefoot?

NO silly boy …It was waiting for me to whinge, I am clearly the anti-God when it comes to weather.
I am busy presuming it will rain tomorrow so it will infact be sunny and allow you full library access.

Like going barefoot is an odd thing anyway?

His/her…just excluding the whole "being sexist " bit

Well, I’m a silly girl, for starters  and though I have no problem with barefeet in summer, when I can scuff my romans off and chill at the beach/park, I draw the line at braving Symonds St without any sort of protective covering…

…and I’m trapped in Retail Hell all tomorrow, so I can just about guarantee that it’ll be sunny. (9-6 anyway)

Still, summer isn’t too far away, right?
