I recently ran across an absolutely excellent presentation on Youtube, debunking various audio myths.
The first part is a video of a seminar in which some cool demonstrations of backwards masking and audience bias are shown. Then there’s a long video by Ethan Winer, giving actual examples to disprove all kinds of myths ‘audiophiles’ believe about sound.
If you’re at all interested in this subject, I highly recommend it. If you’re thinking of buying any recording gear, sound cards for your computer, or you want to do MP3 encoding or other audio manipulation, this presentation is awesome and will open your eyes to what’s real and what isn’t when it comes to the stuff ‘everyone knows’ about digital audio.
