Audio plugs and jacks ??

I have a speaker system hooked to my computer. A subwoofer and 2 satellites. Each satellite plugs into the back of the subwoofer via a 3.5mm mono phone plug (tip/sleeve). I may want to get creative with the placement of the satellites. I have 2 6’ extension cords, one M-M and one is M-F. I have a F-F connector so gender is not an issue. What I’m wondering about is the plugs and jack on the cords are 3.5mm stereo phone plugs/jack (tip, ring, sleeve). Will they work with the mono phone plugs/jacks on the system as mono cords?

yes usually. i’ve had some cheaper cords/adapters/jacks sometimes be touchy on occasion.

The “live” points on the stereo tip may not line up with the live point on the mono cord. If you look on the male plug of your mono cord you’ll see a single ring, while the stereo male plug will show two rings. Fortunately there are stereo/mono connectors that solve that problem, should it arise.

Probably and you are unlikely to harm anything if it does not. If you get a noticeable hum, then the jacks are not lining up.

OTOH don’t go crazy and put 100ft/33m extensions, that could be a little much for the amplifier to overcome and cause it to wear out prematurely.

Thanks.

Nope, I’m just talking about 6ft/1.8m extensions.
