Audioscrobbler: find out what Teeming Millions listen to!

I’ve just downloaded and installed, and joined the group. I’m tarzybug.

Woot. You realize it’s our duty, nay, our destiny, to push Aimee Mann to the top of the SDMB charts right?

I just joined the group, I’m goldsoundz on AS.

how come you get a + and not a ~ next to your name?

Cause I gave them some money.

I’m in.

Believe it or not, but my 2500+ song music library was on random when that happened. I heard the intro and thought “didn’t I just hear this one?” – but I saw it was the original, and decided to let it roll.

Wait until you see all the other random crap in my library. Don’t be surprised if Beth Orton, They Might Be Giants, and Led Zeppelin start creeping up the charts…

I’m in as well. And don’t feel bad about the duplication, Jurph - I’ve got three different versions of “Wild Horses” in my current playlist. Although it hasn’t actually played any of them yet. :frowning:

Heheh I’ve got two, The Sundays and The Flying Burrito Brothers. I assume your third is the Stones?

Mine is the Stones, the Sundays, and Elvis Costello. But now I’ll have to find and listen to the Flying Burrito Brothers version as well. I guess it’s blasphemy, but I am partial to the Sundays’ cover.

I’m in the group - “huskerdude” is my name there.

I just joined as drygear.

This thing is cool. Too bad I listen to most of my music on the computer that doesn’t have an internet connection.

OK, a question and an observation…

On my Audioscrobbler page there is a field labeled “Tracks Played”. Currently it reads 6. I’ve been letting iTunes play all day, so it has certainly uploaded a lot more than 6 tracks. (Heck, my “Recent Tracks” list shows 10!) So, what does “Tracks Played” mean?

And it also looks like I’m the old man of the group. Now I’m really depressed.

“Hey you kids! Turn that music down!”

The system is just pretty slow sometimes, it doesn’t always update Tracks Played right away. Also, sometimes it won’t display your Recent Tracks as you’re playing them.

Same here. Sounds better sung by a woman IMO.

AudioScrobbler’s got a pretty good system going…

Most listing sites, I’ve had to go looking for ‘Puffy’, ‘PuffyAmiYumi’, ‘Puffy AmiYumi’, and ‘Puffy Ami Yumi’ to find all their stuff.

My collection, having been ripped from various different sources has all of those in the tags. AudioScrobbler rendered them all as ‘PUFFY’. Sweet.

And now, a bump for the weekday crowd. Drumroll please!

BUMP!

How long does it take before the system gives you recommendations? I’ve listened to over 600 songs and it’s still processing things.

Just in case anyone’s curious, our chart has been posted. It’s a mix of classic, alternative and indie rock, which is about what I was expecting.

They say it’s a day or two. The algorithms used to give recommendations on a system like this are pretty computation-intensive, so they probably only run 'em once a day or so.

I’m in, as Misnomer971.

I think that if you happen to listen to lots of different artists (no concentration in any one or two artists) then it waits until it has at least 10 instances of “at least two songs by X” – so it can make a top ten chart. I’ve been going for a week and just got my first chart today.
