FWIW, I would say that Martin Van Buren is a “V.” You would never refer to him as “Buren,” and you find him in the dictionary under “V.” Compare to, say, John Nance Garner, who invariably used his middle name but whose last name clearly begins with “G.”

Just my two cents’ worth.

I also vote Martin Van Buren is a V. Astorian still hasn’t gotten over the shock apparently. :slight_smile:
