Aussie/New Zeland Dopers; a quick question regarding DVDs in your region:

Are you guys PAL or NTSC over there in Region 4?

(I told you it was quick! :D)

Thanks!

Fenris

PAL

We seem to have players here that can handle both.

Thanks!

Fenris

I know this isn’t a poll or anything… but what the heck…

PAL

Our TVs have been PAL since forever. These days, most DVDs (and a lot of TVs) are indeed multi-format. I think the regional coding bizzo is of more concern nowadays. Oh, and don’t forget to apply a thin coating of Vegemite to the playing surface of the disk.

The TV standard is European PAL. Most TVs and videos produced in the last five years can handle both. DVD players in general can handle both.

Most DVDs in R4 (at least those sold in Aus/NZ - I don’t know about the South American R4s) are PAL discs, but a number have started coming out in NTSC. Apparently it’s a pet hate of people who sell DVDs as they’re getting large numbers of returns on those.

One acquaintance who works at K-Mart has told me that they’re getting a 75% return rate on certain NTSC discs - and returning things here is much less common than it is in the states.

I’ve got a lot of NTSC discs, but they are all music discs. They aren’t region 4, they’re region-free.
