Aussie woman tries to deal with movie idiot

And the world gets progressively worse

I just saw this and came over to see if anyone had commented on it.

Jeezopete. I hope the woman that made the complaint has to suffer some consequences too.

So, let me get this straight:

An absolute ASS of a bitch yaks away on her phone during a movie, is asked to not talk anymore, then proceeds to shout explatives, storm out, and calls the cops claiming to be assaulted? God God, I really hope there is a somewhat intelligent judge that will see this case for what it is…a big load of nothing, and throw it out. And then charge Ms. Center-of-the-universe with filing a fake police report.

Oh wait, I drifted off there for a second, I forgot we live in reality. The Australian woman will be found guilty on all counts, sentanced to three years in prison and forced to pay thousands for psychological damages.

Ya know, you are allowed to paste *some *of the text here. It would let us know what you are on about…

It’s Texas, she’ll probably get the death penalty.

Moral: in such circumstances, don’t bother with the intermediate & more polite steps. Just assume that anyone who would use a cell phone in the midst of a show or performance is a mouth-frothing berserker as well as a blithering idiot, so make sure your first intervention destroys the cell phone and disables the offender.

Try this link as an alternative. I take it it’s the SMH registration page that blocking you?

Wow. Just wow.

I think he means so he can know what you’re pitting before he clicks on the link.

Sigh. I tell people to shut up in theatres all the time. What a blow to halfway considerate people across the world.

Anyone else struck by the irony inherent in this quote from that article? (emphases mine)

Reminds me of the advice attributed to Mark Twain: “Use the right word, not its second cousin.” Or, in this case, an even more distant relative…

Ah, okay. But I’d have thought “Aussie woman tries to deal with movie idiot” would have been a fairly good summary of what this was about, short of finding out more through the link.

And this is a pitting? In MPSIMS?

Absolutely. You’re going to be charged with assault either way, so you may as well make sure that the person gets the message.

Uh… yeah. Sure. indistinct hand motions

Whoops :stuck_out_tongue:

She should thank her lucky stars it wasn’t Dick Cheney yakking on the phone.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. What is it with people? If I’m paying to see a show I don’t want to be disturbed. My phone gets turned off not as a courtesy to the performers or other patrons but mostly because I want to enjoy what I’ve paid to see undisturbed. How hard is that concept to grasp?

She will. In the article I read (not the one in the OP-- I’ll see if I can find it) the police tried to talk the phone-user out of pressing the assuault charges, warning her they’d charge her with disorderly conduct. She didn’t care-- she wanted the woman who hushed her to be charged. The cops were willing just to let the whole thing go, but the phone user insisted on charges being pressed against the woman who “assaulted” her, even if it meant she’d face charges of her own.

That’s cutting off one’s nose to spite one’s face to epic proportions.

Here it is:

With a name like yours I would think you would want to keep your head down; lower the profile a bit.

I’d love to be in the courtroom when this goes down.
Judge (reading briefing): Excuse me, Mr. Prosecutor?

Prosecutor: Yes, your honor?

J: Is this some sort of joke? This woman is being charged with assault for telling a woman to be quiet during a movie?

P: No joke. The “victim” insists on pressing charges.

J: Is she some sort of idiot?

P: Your honor! I couldn’t possibly answer such a question! (Nods head vigorously).

J: Oops, my bad. (Winks and gives very slight head nod). Case dismissed.

P: Yes, your honor. Next up is that disorderly conduct case…

I didn’t realize that I could force the police to arrest someone just because I asked them to.

In any event, remember the bitch who sued two teens for frightening her when they rang the doorbell to anonymously drop off chocolate chip cookies? She, too, insisted that “justice” be served. In the end it was she who begged for mercy from the public.

By getting herself arrested, the whole world knows this woman’s name and, presumably, her address and phone number. I daresay she’ll soon regret insisting on “justice.” Makes me kinda wish I lived in her hometown. :stuck_out_tongue:
