I just got a text from my son Rob to call 000. He’s been stranded with 2 friends on Mount Morgan in NSW. Been there for 27 hours. I called the police and they’re sending an alpine squad. But they won’t be there for another few hours. It’s getting dark and there has been snow. Feel helpless.
What a terrible situation to live through. I can just imagine how worried you must feel. Please keep us posted as you get more news. Hopefully they will be fine, you just have to hang on for a few hours.
Geez, Cara, that’s awful and I hope help reaches him quickly. Please do keep us posted.
Thanks Carol. I appreciate it. Yes, I just have to wait. If only it wasn’t the middle of winter.
Thanks Eliahna, I will.
Aussie rescue services are up there with the best in the world. Just hope your boy and his friends were adequately prepared for the conditions…but even without, there’s every good chance they’ll be fine. COLD AND HUNGRY, but fine.
Just curious though, why did he text YOU rather than call 000 immediately?? Even without any mobile (cell) coverage, a call to the emergency number will get thru.
Thanks Kam. Yeah, the officer said the Alpine squad are well trained professionals. As far as the texting goes, I don’t know. I think he sent a few texts at the same time. The police already knew some details about the case. He’s not answering his texts now, so maybe he’s out of juice.
Just got word. They are still searching.
Good news! They got em! They’re all ok but boy, is he going to get a piece of my mind!
Thanks for support, all. Whew I’m exhausted now!
Awesome news, our search and rescue teams are pretty good. Glad your boy is going to come home safe to you (we might give him a beer or two before he leaves though, if that’s OK!)
How old is the lad?
Apparently not old enough to know better.
I’m glad he’s OK.
Well, he’s 26, and yeah, he should know better! He’ll be camping overnight with the rescue team, so I imagine the embarrassment will be punishment enough.
The police were great. They were on the case straight away, and kept me up to date. They were going through some pretty thick scrub, at the rate of about 1km per hour. Cold too! About 1C.
I’ll get more details when his phone gets charged up. And yes, he will have that beer! I need one too!
Thanks for your kind words everyone.
So thrilled for the happy outcome! I’m sure that sitting by and just waiting was awful for you. Enjoy that beer - you deserve it!
Excellent news. What a relief for you.
Thank goodness. Always glad to hear of a happy outcome
Oh I’m so glad. How nerve racking for you.
Yes, the waiting and *imagining *was the worst. I just got a tiny taste of what people go through when their loved ones are missing or in danger.
I’m so thankful for the efficiency and professionalism of the search and rescue team.
I do suggest that to supplement his embarrassment, you have him return to this thread and provide a narrative of that day’s events. After he’s calmed down and everyone is willing to laugh about it, of course.
I am very happy for you (and your family of course)!
With my Dad it was always hug first and scold second but feel free to pick whatever order you choose. Glad its all OK and give him a hug for us too.
