Just wait until you live in Oz for a couple years straight without a visit, and then go back to the US. You’ll really be sent for a loop. Everything will seem the exact same but the little things will be different and definately fuck with your head.
Plus you’ll say “cheers” at the end of a conversation and use the word “brilliant” (or worse “'brill” or even worse “billiante”). Bwahahahahahahaha
Hey Grace ! I feel your pain. I am an American in Oz also, I relocated when I was nine years old.
What I missed most about America was the Beef jerky. Oh, beef jerky, how I miss thee. Have you tried the shit that they make here in Sydney?
You’ll get used to it though. I love Sydney so much now I will never ever leave. I went back to the States last year to visit my family and although I had a wonderful time visiting and had a great time getting reaquainted with the foods they don’t have here (grape jelly, Canadian bacon, beef jerky, Budweiser beer, and Wendy’s ::drooling: it was more like a novelty than anything else. I began to badly miss meat pies, and Sunday breakfasts cooked on a barbeque. I don’t think I could ever live in the USA again, despite the fact that I love my home country. It’s wierd.
One great thing about Oz is that they sell Dr Pepper here now! It’s hard to find, but if you love it and are prepared to look, it’s there. I also found a service station here in Baulkham hills (where I live) that sells Hawaiian Punch!! Although I hated the stuff when I lived in the States I bought a box full of it! (for sentimental reasons, of course! )
Hey, if you want to, send me an email… maybe we can organise a Sydney dopefest, then we can get together and crack open a Bud with all the other Sydney Dopers!
There is a possible SydDope in the offing as it is. It’ll be in Bankstown.
Now, the Sydney Dopers are notoriously unreliable at the best of times, so I won’t even think of giving out details just yet, but it’s definitely on the cards. I’ll let you guys know if it looks like actually happening.
