Can anyone point me to a few good refrences for the Austro-Saxon war?
Just a point in the right direction would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Have you looked it up in Wikipedia yet? It’s usually not, itself, acceptable as a reference, but the references at the end of the article are a good start.
That said, my whoosh sense is tingling.
I hate how Wikipedia cannot be used as a reference, a lot of it has been copied directly from out of copyright Encyclopedia Britannica
That’s a really short war to specify. I mean, it’s a small set-piece in the greater Austrian war of succession. It had, what, one battle? Two?
Was there even such a thing as an Austro-Saxon war? I know that they were at war against each other quite a lot, but always as members of opposing coalitions. In what century is it supposed to have taken place?
You have Austrians fighting against Saxons during the 30-Years War, the Austrian War of Succession, and the Napoleonic Wars. After 1814 they were allies until 1870, when Saxony was absorbed into the German Empire.
What you’re probably looking for is the 1741 campaign of the Austrian War of Succession. This was the part where the Saxons joined the Prussians and French, and invaded Austria (until they changed sides in 1743, after having failed to secure any success).
I believe Reed Browning’s The War of the Austrian Succession is the most modern survey work available ( in English anyway ) and does go into a little bit of detail, but unsurprisingly there is not a lot for such a short episode in the wider war.
I checked Michael Hochedlinger’s Austria’s Wars of Emergence, 1683-1797, but as I suspected it has only passing comments. It’s obviously more a big picture analysis and doesn’t spend a lot of time dwelling on the fine details of the various conflicts it charts.
