Auto-restarting windows after a power cut...

aaargh, search functionality has failed me.

I read a thread a couple of weeks ago in which someone mentioned how to set a windows PC to automatically restart after a power cut. Can some kindly remind me, as search, google, and trying to figure it out myself have all failed me. I even hunted through the bios settings.

fwiw, it’s an e-machines (I know, I know) P4 2.4GHz, WinXP SP2.

I am not sure if it is possible for all computers. Restarting the computer after a power failure usually requires physically hitting the power button. It is not so much a BIOS or software issue. I have seen computers that will automatically turn back on after a power failure because that is the way the power supply/motherboard connection for that model however.

I may be wrong but I am sitting here looking at my computer seeing how I could set that up and I can’t think of any way.

Usually in the Bios settings for Power setting. There will be a category similar to:
State after power returned: Looked for restart option.

I posted something like this last week. Might of been mine you saw.

Every Bios is different of course, but most have this feature since 2000 or 2001.

Yeah, it’ll be a BIOS option if it’s there at all. The manufacturer of the machine isn’t as important as the brand that appears on start (Phoenix, Award, etc).

For an AMI BIOS it’s something like “Restore on AC/Power Loss” with options “Power On”, “Power Off” and “Last state”.
