Those are not really major auto shows like LA, Geneva, Detroit or Tokyo. They all basically are 90 percent the same and the automakesr usally choose one of the majors ones to bow a new model or concept. There are acceptions depending upon the timing of the events and the market that they are playing to.
We have a definite B-level auto show here. No concept cars (or maybe one if they get lucky). It’s really more like all the dealers in town getting together for a sidewalk sale.
The auto show in San Diego, which occurs between Christmas and New Years, is basically a bunch of cars from all the car companies set out in the convention center so you can sit in them and compare. There are a few concept type cars from some companies. There are no announcements of any importance. My dad was in the market to replace a ten year old car so it was good to see them all in one day in one place to get an idea of what to look at closer. There are cars from local clubs and the local auto museum. This year they had a lot of custom cars upstairs that were fun to look at.
As far as the new cars go it was mostly like you had all the showrooms in one convention center. So yes I imagine it was basically the same show as the other B/C cities.
There’s actually an (informal) tour circuit, with largely the same exhibits traveling from city to city, so other than the few big ones Si Amigo mentioned, you’re right.
