Volvo has had auto down on driver’s or passenger’s windows for about 13 years. Auto up and Driver’s and / or passenger’s for about 8 years now. (model specific)
Auto down / auto up on all 4 on some models since 2004.
Sunroofs have had an auto close / with safety reverse since 1996 IIRC.
The safeties in the systems are current based. if the current flow gets either too low, or too high the window with either stop (when going down) or reverse and stop. (auto up)
To unroll the window part way, you just don’t push the switch all the way down. Same with putting the window part way up.
The system does not take much more or different window hardware, it does require a current sensing circuit and a control circuit.
