I have a 2001 Hyundai Sonata with a “sometimes” brake light. The cause is a loose wire going into the back of the bulb socket (it’s the green wire in a green/green-white/black set) - push the wire in, light comes on; let wire hang normally, light goes off. My question is: do I have to replace the entire socket, or can I do something to tighten the connection? It doesn’t look like there’s a way to open up the socket, but I could be wrong. I don’t want to just try dripping solder in because the hole is rather small and I’d hate to screw up the socket by flooding it with solder in places it doesn’t need it.
I can’t recall seeing an automotive bulb socket that is feasible to repair. Replace it.
Yeah, definitely replace it. If cost is a factor, you don’t even have to get the exact socket, as long as the bulb and socket you do get can be made to fit in the housing and you do the wiring right.
Of course, if all it needs is a little pressure you could go the hot-glue-and-zip-ties route, but that way lies great pain… and delight.
That’s what I suspected. Thanks, guys.
