Automotive Tire Overinflation and Explosions

Do we have any documented cases of overinflation causing car tires to blow out?
I’m limiting the question to passenger cars with PSI levels under 110, as well as years since 1990.

I’ll expand the question to include documented instances of loss of vehicle control attributed to overinflation.
Anyone?

I don’t think it is quite what you are looking for, but a number of years ago, a welder had a split ring rim off a truck laying on the ground while he welded on it to repair a crack.
He did not remove the air pressure or the tire off the rim before welding. Apparently the welding heated the air in the tire to the point the split ring was blown off the rim. The welder was decapitated, and the ring went through the roof of the tin building he was in.
It made the LA Times.

I doubt it. When I take my car to the track the whole wheel becomes so hot that you can’t even stand near it, let alone touch it.

Car wheels and split rim truck wheels are two different animals. It can be very dangerous to disassemble and reassemble split rim wheels. Look at this page to get an idea of the hazard:

Tires on split rims should be inflated inside a safety cage.

Rick’s anecdote probably doesn’t apply to the OP but your experience doesn’t negate the fact that the anecdote is probably accurate.
