Avatar: The Last Airbender

Maybe, but I’m not so sure. Remember the second Lord of the Rings movie, The Two Towers? There was more than a little hand-wringing post-9/11 that the public would find the name of that movie an awful, distasteful reminder of the terrorist attacks. By summer 2002, and certainly when the movie premiered that December, all of those concerns were forgotten and nobody was confused or offended. Cameron’s Avatar was huge, but I think the capacity for public amnesia in pop culture is huger.

The series ended with a question:

Where is Zuko’s mother?

I wondered if they left that hanging as a “hook” to some sort of sequel.

Yep, so does everyone.

Is there any actual information out there? I don’t really follow the issue, but I’m curious.

I’ve seen no concrete comments from the creators or anyone else. I had a vague memory of them being ask in an interview this very question (the one from ouryL’s spoiler), and the answer was just hints about maybe we might maybe someday find out - or not. I’ve tried to google up the interview with no luck. Leaving the question dangling for possibly years (or perhaps forever) is kind of a lousy thing to do to the show’s audience IMO.

Don’t you hate it when you try to send someone an email and you accidentally send them an entire movie?

On Saturday night, a Twitter user claimed they were accidentally sent the entire animated film via email.

I probably can’t say that the whole movie is out there, and it isn’t an unfinished cut. I probably also can’t say that it is pretty good, but leans more on heavy action than on deep plot and worldbuilding. I can’t say that it has high production value. Or that some cabages were harmed in the making of this film.
