It functions perfectly as an avatar. That is, IF people are being honest when they say that “all they want is a way to put a face with a name.” As for members-only: how about–if you want to use the feature, become a member? Or, maybe TPTB would make user profile pix available to all??
Christ.
If, instead, what avatar advocates really want is free ad space for their favorite webcomic or a virtual “mum’s refrigerator door” next to every single post they make, then it does not function as an avatar.
Zoaraster.
I think what people really want in an avatar is starting to show through here. Don’t make this message board like that. Take it somewhere else. 'k?
If only there were some mechanism that existed so that we could avoid discussions that didn’t interest us. Possibly some form of text label applied to every thread. It should also be possible to separate threads with similar topics somehow… :smack:
But what about avatar-related comments in-thread you say? Well it is obviously true that it could lead to a terrible new phenomenon I am going to name “Hi-jacking”. Hard to imagine such a thing could possibly happen here but it is a risk I am willing to take.
But seriously now. To head off both your objections I propose the following:
Make a new forum for avatar-related fun and games. Wouldn’t want MPSIMS to become trivialised now would we?
Make it a point of board etiquette or even a rule, that avatar-related compliments and comments should not be made outside the new forum or PMs.
The user profile pix ARE effectively avatars, dumbass, except they are even better. Just think of them as AvatarsPLUS!
Try New AvatarsPLUS! --all the advantages of an avatar (putting a face with a name) WITHOUT all that pesky, random, image-based garbage shitting all over every post in every thread!!!
And why do you keep mentioning that only paying members can view profiles–as if that has something to do with me? If you don’t like that, talk to the Administrators. What makes you think that a new avatar feature wouldn’t only be open to members also?
You’re really pissy about this, you know? You must want to puke-up that rainbow-colored unicorn from the Ren-Faire really bad, huh?
Take a break. Set down the doughnuts, maybe go for that walk you’ve been excitedly talking about with friend(s); planning for months; staying up all night laughing and crying about in nervous anticipation. Take that walk to front door and check the mail.
Ahh. I figured. It’s the lolzcatz and webcomic spam next to every one of your posts then, eh?
I’m sorry you don’t understand palindromes. In any event, in seems you’re accusing me of some sort of narcissism. Check this out: I’m not the one advocating for a Glamour Shots portrait from 1992 next to every one of my posts.
But I don’t need an avatar by your name to remind me of who you are. To me you are, and will always be, hatchet-wound, and the vision of well-worn whorebits unfurled to the floor like some monstrous advert for free, gaping cooze comes far too easily.
Neither am I. But you continue to impress me with your seemingly proactive need to remain ignorant in regards to what some people are actually arguing.
I find your irrational anger amusing. The idea that you would be forced to look at avatars is ridiculous. They would be totally optional to both have and see.
Yep and this post of yours is a great example of misrepresentation. People have compared the arguments used by those against avatars, to the arguments used by gay-bashers.
No equating, and it’s the arguments they are referring to, not the people making them. Sheesh.
Is this where you want to get into a retarded circlejerk of “Thats not what was said, he said, she said, we said, the dog said, the cat smirked, semantic nitpicking?”
Well, no, I couldnt be bothered. Equates ME with a homophobe? I couldnt care if anybody equates me with Mugabes homophobic scrotum.
My point was quite clear. Red Barracuda said
“your seemingly proactive need to remain ignorant in regards to what some people are actually arguing”.
I simply pointed out that applied both ways. And it does. Except not to me.
