Is there something one, who is on the receiving end of a speaker phone call, do to irritate the caller enough to pick up the receiver?
Obviously, it cannot be blatant, like, “Get me off goddamn speaker phone, you bastard!” It has to be more subtle, like typing a code of some sort into my phone that makes the reception terrible, or my voice extremely soft - too soft to hear - so the caller is forced to take me off speaker.
Would that there was a way to get the person in the next cube who insists on using speaker phone all the time. Even when listening to voice mail. Even when on personal business.
You can tell when you’re on the speaker phone; try alleging that there’s an echoing sound that is making it difficult to hear the person. “Could we try it without the speaker phone? There’s a weird echo in the line and I’m having trouble understanding you.”
Also, to prevent feedback, a lot of speaker phones automatically mute the microphone if someone else it talking. Must be some way to take advantage of that.
You’ve got the answers here. Talk softly, and pretend you can’t hear anything. (Close to the truth, usually).
For those who listen to voicemail over the speakerphone, there are many pr0n related audio files on the net… one of these, carefully chosen and sent to voicemail can work wonders.
