Average age of troops.

I’ve heard everything between 20 and 23. Does anyone know what the average age of the troops in the Iraq war really is?
No great historical significance to this question, I’m merely curious.

Sorry I don’t have any info mangeorge , but I assume you are referring just to US or Coalition troops? My impression is that the age range on the Iraqi side is rather wide.

I read recently that the average of military officers is 35 and 29 for enlisted. I don’t know if this is an accurate reflection of the troops who went to Iraq though.

Coalition troops, mostly enlisted, I guess. Although junior officers wouldn’t be much older.
I’ve seen some interviews, and those messages to home, and I noticed that they looked a little older than the Vietnam troops I remember. They look to be in their early twenties. I’d think an all volunteer military would be slightly younger, due to the draft gap.
Twenty-nine? I dunno, x-ray vision. I doubt they could get troops that old (average) to do battle. There’s a reason the mil. recruits so young.

My buddy from the US Naval Academy who was up visiting me this weekend informed me that the average age in the Navy, (officers and enlisted, everyone), is 19. Dunno about the other services.
